Are you afraid to fail? Start homeschooling now!
Perhaps you are nervous about pulling your kids out of Public School in order to Home school them? Or you are fearful you cannot homeschool your child all the way through High School? Maybe you are starting a new business?
There are so many things to be fearful about in life. I was scared when I first started homeschooling. I just knew I was going to screw up my kids.
Every year I have a brief time where I think I am failing. But that is just my brain telling me I can’t do it. Instead I have to tell myself I can do it. I can homeschool my children successfully through High School. I can start this blog and be successful.
This is an amazing quote from Christy Wright
“Even if you conquer your fear of doing one thing, there moment you try something new, push your limits, or take on a new challenge, you’re going to have a whole new set of fears that come with it. The bad news is, you’ll probably have some level of fear with you the rest of your life. But the great news is, it doesn’t have to stop you from doing the things you want to do.”
Furthermore, the truth is everyone is scared of doing something sometime in their life. It is a normal part of life. You have to keep telling yourself, “I CAN do it.” “I CAN succeed.”
When it comes down to it, God wants us all to succeed. He wants us to follow our calling. Be courageous! And if your fears are louder than what you are telling yourself, be louder. Be in control! You can do it! I believe in you! Don’t let fear rule your life!
How i overcame feeling afraid
I want to share with you a personal story about how fear has gotten the best of me. My oldest son is on the Autism spectrum and has always struggled with school. I shared earlier how I was scared I couldn’t help him as much as I would like in school. I knew he struggled. I knew it was hard for him.
I really didn’t know how hard school was for him until a month ago when he had neuro-psych testing done. The good thing about having this 7 hour test done is I got to see what he is struggling with. We were told he has horrible dyslexia. He has the worst kind because it is multi-dimensional. He doesn’t just struggle with one way of learning, he struggles with every avenue there is. YIKES!
My thought was okay, this is not good! We asked if he would do better in a public school setting with the extra specialized help.
The answer astounded us!! The doctor said, if we would have put him in public school, he would be so much FURTHER behind than what he was. Wait…does that mean that all our hard work is paying off?!? Does that mean I am not failing my child? The answer is simple…YES.
I knew I could never send my son to public school, because he would be bullied and he would not get the the specialized instruction that he needs. This test confirmed for us that my son is doing better in homeschooling than he would in a public school. I am not failing as a teacher!
I want to use my personal story as an encouragement to you. If you feel like you are failing homeschooling, just know you are doing fine. You child is getting more instruction time, dedicated help, and love than they would get going to a public school. You CAN do it.
DO NOT stress if you get a little behind, or your child is having a melt down. Your child needs YOU! Try to focus on attaining smaller goals (like Homeschooling One year At A Time). Focusing on smaller ones will help you achieve bigger ones.
